Humberto Brenes is a family man who resides with his wife and three children in his native Costa Rica. Humberto Brenes is also – along with his two brothers, Alex and Erick – a professional poker-playing champion.

Engaging, and popular with other players due to his always friendly manner, Humberto’s favorite tournament attire are brightly-colored jump suits, a visor, and two pairs of glasses, one atop the other. A poker tournament player since 1988, he has actually played poker since the age of seven when taught by his father.

As of 2006, Humberto has won two World Series of Poker bracelets and has finished in the money in numerous World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour tourneys.His WSOP bracelets were both won in the 1993 WSOP tournament playing limit Texas Hold ‘em and pot limit Omaha.

Brenes championship career began in 2002 when he finished first at Jack Binion World Poker Open Championship, in Tunica, MS. Humberto took home half-a-million dollars in that one.In 2004, Benes finished in the money at the Foxwood Poker Classic, where his third place won more than $1.5 million.

Humberto’s poker playing skills have certainly earned him a pretty good living, but poker playing is far from his only source of income. Humberto is an astute businessman as well, owning, and having owned numerous successful businesses in Costa Rica, among which were several restaurants, a Univision TV station, and a construction company. Currently he owns a nut processing plant in his home country. Additionally, Humberto holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Costa Rica.
